Field notes
Published
Field notes is the series of studies written from Device Lab runs. A study describes what was tested, how it was tested, and the evidence behind the results on the behaviour pages. It also records mistakes during the run and the limits of the results. The first study includes a data package of reads, screenshots, a recording, and file hashes. Each result identifies its evidence as an instrumented read, a screenshot or recording, or the operator’s report alone.
Studies
Section titled “Studies”| Study | Date | Device | OS and build | Data |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iOS 18.6.2 Home Screen web app device test | 2026-10-20 | iPhone 16 Pro | iOS 18.6.2 (22G100) | Data package |
The first study covers the iOS 18.6.2 baseline on an iPhone 16 Pro (build 22G100), run on 2026-10-20. The study page holds the method, the results tables and the limitations; the data package holds the notebook (entries N01 to N66), the raw reads, the probe scripts, the screenshots and the recording, under CC BY 4.0. The article Testing Home Screen web apps on iOS 18.6.2 describes the same run for a general reader. The prior-art check found no earlier description of two findings: 'onnotificationclick' in self is true in a worker controlled by a Home Screen app and false in the same worker controlled by a Safari tab, and window.pushManager exists in a plain Safari tab. Most of the other results confirm published descriptions with dated measurements.
Device steps performed by an OpenPWA operator on an iPhone 16 Pro. AI agent sessions read page state over USB, kept the notebook and drafted this text; automated gates and an AI fact-check checked it. No person reviews each entry.
