# OpenPWA device test: Home Screen web apps on iOS 18.6.2 (2026-10-20), public data package This package is the sanitised evidence behind the OpenPWA study "Testing Home Screen web apps on iOS 18.6.2" (https://openpwa.net/news/testing-home-screen-web-apps-on-ios-18-6-2/, Chinese version at https://openpwa.net/zh/news/testing-home-screen-web-apps-on-ios-18-6-2/). Landing page: https://openpwa.net/research/2026-10-ios18-home-screen-web-apps/data/ - Device: Apple iPhone 16 Pro (ProductType iPhone17,1), iOS 18.6.2, build 22G100, Safari 18.6 - Date: 2026-10-20, about 06:36 to 09:35 UTC, plus a status-bar colour follow-up at about 10:56 UTC - Who did what: an OpenPWA operator performed every step on the phone; AI agent sessions read page state over USB (WebKit remote inspector protocol through `ios_webkit_debug_proxy`, WebDriver through `safaridriver`), kept the notebook, analysed screenshots and the recording, and drafted the text. No person signed off each entry. Results are labelled **A** (agent-measured read), **S** (screenshot or recording) or **O** (operator's verbal report only). - Version: 1 (2026-10-20). Not peer reviewed. ## How to cite > OpenPWA device test, 2026-10-20, iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18.6.2 (22G100). > https://openpwa.net/research/2026-10-ios18-home-screen-web-apps/data/ Cite one finding by its notebook entry, for example "OpenPWA device test, 2026-10-20, iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18.6.2 (22G100), N35". The notebook is append-only: corrections are later entries, so cite the latest entry on a topic. ## Licence Everything in this package (notebook, protocol, report, raw reads, probe scripts, screenshots, recording) is published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Compared with them: - All PNGs were re-encoded without EXIF or XMP metadata. Capture times are recorded in the notebook (N57). - `T11_1_redacted`, `T8_1b_redacted`: unrelated Home Screen apps and the dock blanked in grey. `T7_4_redacted`: the Settings notification list blanked except the OpenPWA and PWA Lab rows. `T4_5_landscape_redacted`: other sites' tab titles blanked. `T4_18c_sheet_redacted`: the keyboard area (a third-party input-method toolbar) blanked; the add sheet is untouched. The lab icons, the OpenPWA icon and the notification banner are untouched. - Recording: re-encoded to H.264, the first 1.0 s (Home Screen with unrelated apps) cut, audio removed, metadata replaced. Timings in notebook N59 refer to the untrimmed original; subtract 1.0 s. The Home Screen frame at 0.2 s is kept as a separate redacted still. - The probes recorded push endpoints as host only. No endpoint path, `p256dh` or `auth` value appears in any file. The VAPID public key in `tools/site-snapshots/` is the one published on openpwa.net; its private key was discarded when it was generated, so no real push message can be sent to the test subscriptions. - Inspectable-page lists in `raw/*.meta.json` show other origins as ``. Public-copy edits (these files therefore differ from `ARCHIVE-SHA256SUMS`): - The installed Safari Web Extension's per-install identifier is replaced by `` in the notebook and in nine `raw/*.meta.json` files. - `tools/wi-read.sh`: the device UDID was already replaced by a required `UDID` environment variable in the archive; the public copy also replaces the operator's local working path with the script's own directory. This file therefore matches neither its line in `tools/SHA256SUMS` nor the archive. - `PROTOCOL.md`: internal editorial-workflow steps (outreach queues and ledgers) are omitted. - `REPORT.md`: section 14 (data availability) is rewritten for publication. ## Caveats One device, one build, the phone not wiped, at least one Safari Web Extension installed (identity, feature flags, VPN and iCloud Private Relay not recorded). Several operator reports were later corrected by records (anomalies A7, A9, A10; report section on corrections). Some screenshots listed in the register were not delivered (see the register addendum). No real push message was sent. The study's limitations section lists the rest.
