# Headline findings: iOS 18.6.2 device test (2026-10-20) Citation: `OpenPWA device test, 2026-10-20, iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18.6.2 (22G100)`. Cite a finding with its notebook entry, for example "…, N35". Confidence: **A** agent-measured read, **S** screenshot or recording, **O** operator verbal report only. Full detail in `REPORT.md`; article in `PAPER.md`. 1. **A page with no manifest and no icon, added to the Home Screen, opens in Safari, not as a web app**: Safari's process, `navigator.standalone` false, `display-mode: browser`, Safari's storage and service worker. N23, N63; `raw/2026-10-20-ios18.6.2-step14-t1probe.json`, `screenshots/…_T1_4.png`. **A+S.** 2. **A manifest app opens standalone in a 402 x 812 viewport (screen 874, Safari tab 678); only `display-mode: standalone` matches.** N13; `raw/…-step09-app-demo.json`. **A+S.** 3. **Icon precedence: the 180 px apple-touch-icon wins over manifest icons; without it the manifest `any` 192 icon is used; icon-less pages get a letter tile.** N11, N63; `screenshots/…_T11_1_redacted.png`. **S.** 4. **localStorage and IndexedDB are never copied from Safari into the Home Screen app and stay separate in both directions.** N13, N16 to N20. **A.** 5. **A first-party cookie is copied from Safari into the app once, consistent with copy at Add to Home Screen, and is independent afterwards; each Home Screen app has its own cookie store.** Replicates WebKit's Safari 17.2 description on 18.6.2. N18 to N22. **A** (copy timing: moderate). 6. **`notificationclick` fires in the installed app through both `addEventListener` and `self.onnotificationclick`, 6 of 6 taps (banner, Notification Centre, after relaunch, after swipe-away); `focus()` on the existing window succeeds.** N35 to N40. **A.** The `clients.openWindow()` path was not reached. 7. **`'onnotificationclick' in self` is true in a worker controlled by the Home Screen app and false in the same worker controlled by a Safari tab**, which explains BCD's "unsupported" (its collector runs that check, issue #22959). N03, N18, N34. **A.** 8. **The permission prompt appears after a tap and `Notification.requestPermission()` stays pending until the user answers: 2068 ms on a never-prompted app, prompt on the recording.** N53, N54, N58, N59. **A+S.** 9. **One permission grant covers both push managers. With a service worker scoped to a subpath (`/lab/device-tests/`, `/demo/`), the worker's subscription (`web.push.apple.com`) was not returned by `window.pushManager.getSubscription()` (null), which is consistent with WebKit's Declarative Web Push post: only a worker scoped to the root of the site shares the window's subscription. A root-scoped worker was not tested.** (9b) `window.pushManager` also exists in a plain Safari tab, where `PushManager` and `Notification` do not (exposure only; `subscribe()` was not tried in the tab). N03, N32, N33, N41. **A.** 10. **With the default status-bar style the installed app's viewport starts 62 px below the top and content never reaches the strip, even with `viewport-fit=cover` (which only adds a 34 px bottom inset); the strip is a solid `#161616`, with no blur. The strip colour comes from the page's `theme-color` meta when present (it overrides a different manifest `theme_color`, also inside an existing app) and from the manifest `theme_color` when the page has none.** N25 to N29, N62; source: N64 to N65-a (M1 manifest `#d00000` + meta `#00a050` gives `#00a050`; M2 meta only gives `#d00000`; M3 manifest only gives `#00a050`; theme-red meta `#d00000` in the lab app, manifest `#161616`, gives `#d00000`), `screenshots/…_T4_18c_M{1,2,3}.png`, `screenshots/…_T4_12a.png`. **A** (geometry) **+ S** (pixels) **+ O**; colour source **S+O**. 11. **`apple-mobile-web-app-status-bar-style: black-translucent` with `viewport-fit=cover` still draws the page under the status bar on 18.6.2: viewport 402 x 874, `safe-area-inset-top` 62 px.** N55. **A** (+O for the white text over the page colour). 12. **`navigator.setAppBadge(3)` shows "3" on the Home Screen icon of an app with notification permission.** N60; `screenshots/…_T11_1_redacted.png`. **S** (clearing: O). Novelty (prior-art check, `DISTRIBUTION.md` §0a): only **7** and **9b** are new as far as we found. Every other finding confirms a published description (WebKit, firt.dev, BCD issue comments) with new measurements; 10 adds a measured 18.x baseline (62 px, 812 of 874, `#161616`) that was not public, but the behaviour itself is documented. Do not cite, from this run: any statement that the status bar was blue or followed the page's top colour (retracted, N46); "theme-color has no effect on the status bar" or "the app uses the manifest `theme_color`" (both refuted, N65, N65-a); anything about SBS default or SBS black (not installed, N50-a).
